Career Paths
Basic education and training
Traditionally, people entering the fiduciary field start out with a commercial apprenticeship in a fiduciary company with a Swiss certificate of education. This experience may be supplemented with a commercial university qualification exam. It is also possible to take a purely academic path by obtaining a commercial diploma or a general university certificate.?Reforms to the system of basic commercial education have increased the importance of in-service training. To assist businesses in the fiduciary industry that train apprentices, the Organisation kaufmännische Grundbildung Treuhand/Immobilien (OKGT) has produced a model course tailored to the industry's specific needs. The OKGT is an umbrella organisation accredited by the Federal Office for Education and Technology (OPET), which supports the trainers and the trainees in the fiduciary and real estate industry throughout the apprenticeship period.
Specialisation
After several years in the fiduciary industry, qualified individuals may take courses for working professionals to prepare them for one of the professional exams (fiduciary field, finance and accounting) recognised in Switzerland and to obtain the corresponding specialist certification.
Specialist exams
After several subsequent years of specific expertise in the field, an individual may reach a higher professional level in the fiduciary field by obtaining a diploma in trusts, taxes, accounting and controlling, or auditing.?
Requirements are either a specialist certificate in the fiduciary industry, graduation from an advanced technical college or university in business or law. Upon completion of a specialist exam at this level, an individual is awarded a diploma recognised throughout Switzerland.
STS and IREF, the two training institutions of the TREUHAND|SUISSE, cover a wide range of training and continuing education needs with a sophisticated series of preparatory courses for specialisation and specialist exams.
